SCM: Short Course Meters. Races are swum in a 25-meter pool.

USMS: United States Masters Swimming. The governing body for masters swimming in the U.S. (www.usms.org)

Colonies Zone: A subsidiary of USMS and 1 of 8 zones in which the country is divided. It encompasses the eastern states stretching from Virginia to Maine. (http://www.colonieszone.org/about.htm)

NE-LMSC: New England Local Masters Swimming Committee. A regional subsidiary of the USMS' Colonies Zone. It is responsible for masters swimming in Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. (www.nelmsc.org)

NEM: New England Masters Swim Club. One of a number of swim clubs within the NE-LMSC. When competing within the boundaries of NE-LMSC, its members can either swim for a workout group or directly for the club. (www.swimnem.org)

Workout Group: A satellite team within a swim club. Workout groups often compete as separate teams when participating within the boundaries of the NE-LMSC. However, when competing outside of these boundaries, they compete as their parent club.
